We have some new updates over time. We set our goal to improve player's first experience in the game and these days we are busy finishing the opening narrative. Our main goals are faster learning of controls and game mechanics and better immersion into the story. We decided to accomplish them by adding new story driven part of gameplay that takes part before your crash-land on the planet.
Current tutorial is very outdated and does not address newly added game mechanics. There are more possibilities to teach you in the pre-built interior environment than in randomly generated landscape. This is why we decided to create new tutorial and why the game begins in the stasis chamber inside a space ship instead of on the planet.
Being an engineer, you are awakened from deep sleep by the ship AI to resolve some unexpected issues with main engine. As you try to get into the engine room, you are facing gradually harder mini-puzzles and learn how to work with the inventory and items, electricity, generators, 3d printers and vehicles as well as getting the first info about your mission. The last step of this prequel to the game is using an escape pod to land on the planet and then the game continues as you are used to. We will continue working on the story and the end game will also be held in the mother ship.
We are currently finishing a large spaceship from the blocks we have in the game, and we are really amazed how complex buildings could be done just by using current blocks. But to make more variations, we are adding some decorative blocks that will probably be a part of our package for selected Kickstarter backers.
We use our quest node system for both story and tutorial and found it very versatile. By connecting small tasks together we can create a big story. Here is an example of the screen of the node editor, just for your interest:
We plan to release the new tutorial and the opening part of story by the end of June. Unfortunately, working on it is also a cause of delaying Kickstarter-exclusive blocks and main character look, please be patient, we plan to deliver it soon. Stay tuned, Nomads!
